On behalf of the Organizing Committee in Taipei, it is my great pleasure to express a sincere welcome to all interested biologists, physiologists, patho-physiologists, medical researchers, and practitioners to the IX World Congress of the ISAM, to be held in Caesar Park Hotel-Taipei, Taiwan, during August 2-5, 2009.

Each day, the conference will start with Landmark Lectures by world renowned scientists, followed by parallel symposia as well as poster sessions, to cover the broad topic of Adaptation Biology and Medicine. There will be awards competitions for young investigators. Conference proceedings will be published in “Adaptation Biology and Medicine” series.

Very tasteful social and sightseeing events are also planned for the accompanying members as well as delegates. Conference registration fee will be kept low, particularly for younger scientists, to invite a broader participation.

This conference follows immediately after the International Union of Physiological Scientists in Kyoto, Japan. Taipei is about four hours by air from Kyoto and there are very good airlines connecting the two cities.

I would like to express my thanks to all who submitted their work to ISAM 2009 who attend the conference.

I sincerely hope that all the participants will benefit from the contents of this conference, and enjoy the stay in Taipei.
